How to Make a Real Estate Renovation Video (Before & After)
Make a real estate video that shows a property's renovation potential. Renovate the listing photos with AI, then build a before-and-after video for Instagram reels, social media, and portals — no editing skills needed.
A real estate renovation video is one of the most effective ways to sell a property that needs work. Properties that need a reform are some of the hardest to sell — not because nobody wants them, but because buyers can't picture what they could become. A bare, dated listing photo says "problem." A before-and-after video that walks the buyer from the current state to a fully renovated space says "opportunity." This guide shows you how to make exactly that: a real estate video that shows a property's renovation potential, in a way that's so simple it takes almost no creativity and works for every fixer-upper you list.
The best part is that this is a repeatable system. Once you've done it once, you can apply the same process to any property that needs a renovation and publish the result as a real estate reel on social media and on listing portals.
Why a renovation real estate video works for properties that need reform
When a property needs work, the listing photos are doing the opposite of selling. Buyers scroll past empty rooms, old kitchens, and tired bathrooms because they only see effort and cost. A renovation video flips that: by transitioning from the real "before" to a realistic, renovated "after", you let buyers experience the upside instead of the problem.
This works for three reasons:
- It sells the potential, not the current state. Buyers fall in love with what the property could be.
- Video stops the scroll. A before/after transition with music and a voiceover holds attention far longer than a static photo on Instagram, Reels, or TikTok.
- It sets honest expectations. You're showing a renovated possibility, clearly framed as such — which attracts buyers who are actually open to reforming a home.
What you need
All you need is Pedra and the original listing photos of the property. You'll use two tools: AI virtual home staging and renovation to create the "after" versions of each room, and Pedra's real estate video creator to assemble everything into a finished ad. No editing software, no design skills, and no creativity required.
Step 1: Renovate the listing photos with AI
Start by creating a project in Pedra and uploading the photos of the property — for this example, five shots covering the living room, dining room, bathroom, and kitchen. These are your real "before" images.
Now create the renovated "after" versions:
- Select a photo and choose Edit with AI → Renovate.
- Set the renovation level to medium. A medium level is best for properties that need reform because it refreshes the space while preserving the existing architecture — buyers still recognize the room they'd be buying.
- Pick the room type and a style. Choose the space (bathroom, kitchen, living room, bedroom) and a style such as Scandinavian. You can leave the room type on automatic and Pedra will detect what the space is.
- Furnish empty rooms. If a room is empty, use Renovate to set the room type and ask Pedra to add furniture, so the "after" looks like a finished, lived-in home rather than a bare shell.
Apply the same approach to each photo — kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bedroom — then let the images generate. For more detail on getting clean, realistic results, see our guides on how to renovate houses virtually and AI virtual home staging.
Step 2: Build the before-and-after real estate video
Once your renovated spaces are ready, go to Video → Create video and select the photos you want to include — choose both the originals and the renovated versions so the ad can transition between them.
Pedra orders the photos as you select them, and you can rearrange them however you like — for example, show the kitchen "before it's reformed" first, then how it could look afterward. From there, build out the ad:
- Music: add a soundtrack that fits the property.
- AI voiceover: click "Write with AI" and Pedra drafts the voiceover script for you. Edit it if you want, then generate the audio. The narration is added automatically — and if the option is on, subtitles are generated from the voiceover too.
- Watermark / branding: add your agency's logo as a watermark, adjust its transparency, or upload your own brand mark so every video is consistently yours.
- Property features: optionally show a pill with the key details — number of bedrooms, square meters (e.g. ~110 m²), and price (e.g. around €400k). You can also swap this for a branded pill showing your agency, brand color, agent photo, and phone number.
When everything looks right, click Generate video. Pedra produces two versions — one vertical and one horizontal — so you have the right format for every channel.

Step 3: Publish on social and portals
You now have two finished ads from a single setup:
- Vertical for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and Stories.
- Horizontal for YouTube, your website, and portal listings.
Both transition from the space "to be renovated" to the renovated result, with your voiceover and music carrying the story. If you want to tweak anything — add more photos, change the logo, or adjust the design — you can edit and regenerate at any time.
Tips for a better real estate renovation video
- Keep the renovation realistic. The medium renovation level preserves architecture, which keeps the "after" believable and the buyer's expectations grounded.
- Lead with the strongest transition. Open with the room that has the most dramatic before/after — usually the kitchen or living room.
- Be transparent. Make it clear the renovated shots are a visualization of the property's potential, not its current state.
- Stay on brand. A consistent watermark and a branded contact pill turn every listing video into marketing for your agency, not just the property.
A system you can repeat for every fixer-upper
What makes this powerful isn't a single clever video — it's that the whole process is systematic. Renovate the photos, assemble the before/after video, generate both formats, publish. You can run the exact same steps for every property that needs reform, turning your hardest-to-sell listings into your most engaging content.
